Black River, South Coast, Jamaica

When going up the Black River to view the local crocodiles, don’t miss Sister Lou’s River Stop for the best tasting crab backs in western Jamaica!

Black River in St. Elizabeth is Jamaica’s longest navigable river and so named for the dark colour of the water. The water looks black because of the dark colour of the bottom of the river.

The Black River is famous also for being a home to Jamaica’s crocodiles.

Going on a Black River safari is a popular tourist attraction.

Swimming with the crocodiles in the Black River...

According to our boat man, the crocodiles don’t swim so far up the river. I, however, wasn’t taking any chances…
