Jamaican Woman Wins Bride’s Magazine Dressmaking Competition

JAMAICAN designer Nandi Chin Fernandez was  declared the winner of Bride’s Magazine’s Operation Dream Wedding Dress competition.

Fernandez greeted the announcement by Bride’s editor-in-chief Millie Bratten on ABC’s Good Morning America, with tears of joy, saying, “It means the world [to me], it really does,” when asked for her reaction by Good Morning America host Robin Roberts.

Fernandez, a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Kingston, topped a field of 24 finalists chosen from what Bratten said was “hundreds of submissions”.

Bratten explained that the creations of the 24 finalists were published online and a top five eventually chosen.

Fernandez said her dress was inspired by the Sandro Botticelli painting The Birth of Venus.

“I just love the way the goddess stands over the sea and I think on your wedding day you should feel like a goddess,” said Fernandez who won US$10,000 and the joy of having her dress on the cover of the new issue of the prestigious and influential Bride’s Magazine.

CONGRATS NANDI!
