The Definition of Prickly

This is an interesting tree I spotted while recently visiting a farm in the hills of St. Elizabeth.
It’s called “Prickle Yellow” and is apparently a great bird feeding tree – but I call it the definition of prickly.
It’s fascinating as the bark is covered from top to bottom in sharp “prickles”. I’m thinking that this tree must really be something special to have evolved such an effective defense mechanism.
I certainly wouldn’t want to suddenly loose my balance and fall onto it and I’m not sure how birds manage to “feed” from it but apparently they do…

Freaky….I get a litle disturbed when I see strange surfaces like this. My friend says he use to knock off the prickles and make pipes to smoke with.
