The annual Hook ‘N’ Line Fishing Tournament was held last weekend at Calabash Bay, St. Elizabeth.
The competition, which started in 1996, is now in its 14th year and is a fundraiser for various BREDS projects. BREDS, a Treasure Beach Foundation, is a grassroots organization led by stakeholders in the community representing a wide cross-section of people including a fisherman, headmistress, a guest house operator, a shop owner and a hotelier among others. Past BREDS projects include establishing a radio antenna for local fishermen and staging seminars on various topics.
The Hook ‘N’ Line tournament helps to promote the strong community spirit that Treasure Beach is known for and fosters positive relationships with the local fishermen.
Prizes were given out for the top catches (biggest fish).
The major sponsors include Rainforest Seafood, Jagra, Tankweld Metal and Jack Sprat.
